I could leave my Driver at home. I nearly always tee off with my 3 wood. That leaves plenty of room in my bag for HIGH LOFT fairway woods. I need the distance and loft advantage they give me for uneven fairway shots and low rough.
I am very reluctant to pull an iron out of my bag, because of the distance I will sacrifice. I feel I have better precision with the shorter woods on shots that have to be executed on a little less than the optimum lie.
A 5 wood is great on the optimum lie fairway shot, but we need the advantage that one of these clubs gives us for the "less than optimum" lie.
